Diabetes EducationDiabetes is common, costly, controlable, serious, and sometimes preventable. If knowledge is power, learn what can be done to control diabetes. Call your healthcare provider for a referral for diabetes education. Program OverviewDiabetes Education at Montgomery Regional Hospital has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. Our diabetes educator and dieticians will help you learn to sucessfully manage your diabetes. Four classes of one to two hours each will include content areas such as: healthy eating, staying active, monitoring , taking medicine, problem solving, reducing risks, healthy coping. Medicare and most insurances cover up to 80% of the cost after deductibles are met if you are newly diagnosed. Medicare allows 10 hours initial training within 12 months of diagnosis, and 2 hours a year follow up training on individual and group basis When checking with your insurance plan ask if your plan covers, diabetes self-management training (DSMT). Class DetailsDiabetes Self-Management Classes cover areas specified in the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. Classes are taught by a diabetes educator and registered dietitians. Click here for a description of class content Support GroupWe offer monthly meetings that discuss many topics facing people with diabetes today. Each support group meeting speaker discusses a diabetes relevent topic. The support group sessions allow for discussion, questions and answers, sharing of recipes and diabetes successes. Lite refreshments are available. This group is open to anyone and is free of charge.
